Introducing the yalit100! [Wednesday, December 14th 2011]

Love YA lit? Love writing fic?  Love writing fic for YA lit and wondering why there doesn’t seem to be very much for most books?

Join the YAlit100 challenge!

  • You MAY claim more than one table at a time.
  • You MAY do crossovers, fusions, and AU fic! If you intend to write crossovers and/or fusions, claim the table for the MAIN WORK (so, for example, if you want to write 100 godly-parent-fusion fics, your claim would be “Percy Jackson,” unless all 100 fics would star characters from Anna and the French Kiss or something. SOME ASPECT of all 100 fics must be constant for the book/table you choose!)
  • Fics can be ANY LENGTH. You may write 3-sentence fics, drabbles, one-shots, six-word-ficfests, whatever. The whole point is just to encourage more YA lit fic! :)

So far, there are just the first few tables up, but I will be adding my usual amount of ALL THE YA BOOKS.  :P  Join and/or Watch the
comm on LJ for updates, and make sure to suggest any book(s) that you may think I’ll miss or that you want to see sooner!

Haha, I just realized that I never posted about my DC-going experience. I have it all written down, it's just not on me right now. But didn't I at least link to this? It's my claim to intertube fame, after all!

MEANWHILE:

I approve! Though I am slightly troubled by the fact that my rendition of him is LESS pretty than this one. You heard me-- I prettied down a character for once. It's a world gone mad!

I'm also slowly going insane by all the different titles that have been applied to these books/this series. Let's see, we've got...

The Gideon Trilogy
Gideon the Cutpurse
The Tar Man
The Enlightenment of Pete Schock
The Time Travelers
The Time Thief
And now, The Time Quake Trilogy

So, 2 different titles for each book and 3 different titles for the series. *dies*

Also, the first book came out in Japan recently. Which I can only hope means crazy gay porn comics. Don't you let me down, Japan! You owe me for creating the deranged anime fan!

And it's near me! Whoo! I'll be there! I wonder if I could get both books signed? Or if there'll be anyone else there with the UK edition of the Tar Man? Hey, maybe I'll even get the US edition, too, while I'm there! :D

Post-book Rambling Party! [Sunday, September 9th 2007]

ezqiinah
Whoo-sha! I had to stay up till 2 AM to do it, but I've finished it! Now, I'm sure you've heard of all the people who barreled through the _th Harry Potter book in one night, well, I can't do that. I gotta eat. Two days is a record for me, and I've probably only been able to do that for a couple other books. And now you get to hear about it!

I probably should have made this post when I first started, writing things down as I thought of them, because there's no way I'll be able to remember everything now. Which is good for you, but bad for me.

So now, I bid you adieu, as I am off to compile a list of all the lines that can be considered innuendo, when taken horribly out of context. Most of them involve Lorn Luxon. Tally-ho!

It's GO TIME!

It JUST came in the mail a few hours ago; I'm currently 100+ pages in. It seems that the next few day will be devoted entirely to reading, as the 5th Bloody Jack book was delivered only yesterday, which I'm already halfway through.

Incoherent summary and opinions forthcoming!

But first: Huzzah for birth dates! 1729, you say? So the year the Tar Man was hanged would've had to of been 1743 or so. Interesting. I wonder, did he get his scar during that same year? I'd assume so, because he says that the one who gave it to him-- his little brother-- didn't live to see his 3rd birthday (or so he's been told). He would've been 2 when it happened.

Say, now. How old was Gideon, again?

Conspiracy theory, you say? Hmmm...

Preorder time is go!

I still don't get why the US edition doesn't come out until December. It's not like they have to translate it to another language or anything-- and, no, publishers, you won't to blow anyone's mind by not changing "football" to "soccer". No, really. You won't.

Wait, wait, wait.

Amazon.com sez: December 26?!

Though on the plus side, it's around 100 pages longer than the first. <3

Additionally:

What, what, what?

I'm just now doing my twice-weekly checking of the official site, and I notice that they've added a read online page. Well, the US/Canada only has the first book, but the UK site (click on the flags at the bottom) has The Tar Man. And there on the title page, it's referred to as "Book II of The Enlightenment of Peter Schock".

Buh?

I mean, Peter is fine and everything, this is just getting confusing. You've got the book title itself, and then two different trilogy names. I guess The Gideon Trilogy is US/Canada and The Enlightenment of Peter Schock is UK/Australia? Weird that they would change it.

I didn't even realize that Peter was supposed to be The Main Character, either; I always figured that role was filled jointly by Gideon, Kate, and Peter. What enlightenment are they talking about, anyway? O_o

More rambling:

1) I just remembered something about the main character of the Bloody Jack series of books: She has a scar on one side of her face and on her neck from when she survived a hanging at roughly age 14. But otherwise, she's not a scary lord of the London underworld. Yet. S'awesome.

2) I've noticed that the UK covers don't really scream YOUNG ADULT BOOK like the new US versions (not that those aren't good too). In fact, it really just looks like any other abstract-ish cover you'd see on an adult paperback. Is this just a difference between the way young adult US and UK books are marketed, or is it just this publisher?

3) And on that note: The Time Thief cover. Made of win. <3

Huh. I've tried editing the layout, to change the about panel and the links up top, but for some reason it doesn't take.

Looks like I might have to find another one...

[Wednesday, May 16th 2007]

According to the publication news on the official site, Gideon the Cutpurse will be re-released in Canada and the US as The Time Travelers, complete with different cover.

Which is odd, because the thing that drew me to the book in the first place was its swanky cover. That, and I love the name Gideon. I don't get why this happens, and apparently it's not that uncommon; you'd think it would be bad publicity, changing things around like that?

Oh well, maybe it means my old school copy will be worth a lot of money eventually?

Likewise, The Tar Man will be titled The Time Thief over here, again with a different cover. But that's really neither here nor there, because it's not going to be released until December 07! What happened to June? Plus, the UK is getting it 3 months earlier!

No wonder we have mommy issues! xD

I might have to have it imported... and post spoilers all over the internet. Not that anyone would care, of course. D:

Dumbledore dies! Try that one on for size! Wait, no.

The Tar Man: Chapter 01 [Tuesday, February 27th 2007]

ezqiinah
I'd make a layout of my own, but since I'm the only one here, I'd rather not. Yes.

Anyway! Whilst tooling around the official site, I came across a PDF of the entire chapter one of the second book.

Fanart: The Tar Man [Saturday, February 10th 2007]

ezqiinah
Guaranteed to be the first of many.

Be happy it's just a plain character drawing, and not the other kind. You know what I'm talking about. D:

This was was drawn in Open Canvas over the course of a few days. As with all things I'm able to see at 200% magnification, I got to be REALLY anal about the details and any stray pixels. Also: I actually, OMG, did research into 18th century clothing!

And I even made an attempt at drawing, OMG x2, a man that looks like a man and isn't a hermaphrodite! I'm not entirely sure what he looks like, though. What I got was, other than the scar and his busted neck, he has black hair in "rats' tails", weather-beaten skin, and a large nose. But what I'm unsure of is his age; Peter, a 12-year old, describes him as "still quite young". And as 12-years olds think everyone over 30 is old, I'd imagine he's only a few years older than Gideon (21). Though, were I to go with my crazy conspiracy theory (see below), he'd probably have to be around 30. What'ev.

So. How about this: The Tar Man = Gideon's (supposedly dead) eldest brother?
